- 3 large eggs
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- 1 tsp anise extract (or 2 teaspoons anise seed, finely ground)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
Step 1: Prepare the Batter
Step 2: Add Wet Ingredients
Step 3: Mix Dry Ingredients
Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in a another basin. Stirring until a homogeneous batter develops, gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Although thick, the batter shouldn't be rigid.
Step 4: Preheat the Pizzelle Iron
Step 5: Cook the Pizzelles
Step 6: Remove and Cool
Using a spatula, carefully remove the pizzelles. To cool and crisp, lay them flat on a wire rack. As soon as possible while still heated, shape into cones or bowls.
- The strong flavor of anise extract can be adjusted according to personal taste.
- For optimal crispness, always let pizzelles cool completely.
- To avoid softening, store in an airtight container.
