- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup uncooked long-grain white rice
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1(15 oz) can tomato sauce
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- Salt to taste
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Optional garnish: fresh parsley or green onions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Brown the beef:In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef and onion; cook until the beef is browned and onion is soft. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute. Drain excess fat from the skillet and stir in tomato sauce, beef broth, rice, paprika, oregano, pepper, and salt. Mix well.
Transfer to baking dish:Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly. Cover and bake:Cover with foil and bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked and liquid is absorbed. Add cheese:Remove foil, sprinkle shredded cheese evenly over the top, and bake uncovered for an additional 5–10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly. Let it rest:Allow casserole to sit for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley or green onions if desired.

You can use brown rice, but adjust cooking time and liquid accordingly.

Ground turkey or chicken can be used as a leaner alternative to beef.
